TU 38, its scribe and his family

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

Quite some cuneiform scribes from Hellenistic Uruk belong to the Ekur-zakir family. The scribal father-son tradition mostly allows the reconstruction of family trees of these scribes, but the regular appearance of the same personal names and papponymy precludes a clear picture. Two branches of the Ekur-zakir family are explored on the basis of colophons from canonical texts and date formulae from archival tablets. TU 38, a canonical text with a large colophon that explains the history of the text and refers to an earlier copyist from the same family, is of central importance in this research.
