Accurate 3D indoor position estimation by means of sensor fusing UWB and VLP signals

Accurate indoor positioning at a low price is a long-standing research challenge. Several techniques are currently being investigated, with Ultra Wide Band (UWB) as a solution being commercialized over the last couple of years. UWB has, as any other technique, its own strengths and weaknesses. Especially in warehouses with large, moving metallic objects, the accuracy is limited. Another emerging technique is Visible Light Positioning. This technique is less vulnerable for a changing environment. The goal of this research is to combine the best of both worlds, by fusing the UWB and VLP sensor data to obtain a higher accuracy than possible with the two techniques individually.
