Research Council Award - Probabilistic Epistemic Logic and Logical Geometry

My research interests are largely situated in philosophical logic, which can be described as the formal study of reasoning and argumentation processes. Roughly speaking, I have worked on two broad themes. (i) During my PhD, I mainly worked on probabilistic epistemic logic, which studies arguments in which both knowledge and probabilities (interpreted as degrees of belief) play a crucial role. (ii) More recently, I have worked on laying the foundations of logical geometry, which studies Aristotelian diagrams as objects of independent logical and philosophical interest. My research on both of these themes has led to important new insights, which are recognized as such by some of the most distinguished researchers in the discipline. However, the single most important scientific breakthrough that I have realized thus far is the establishment of logical geometry as a substantial new area within philosophical logic, with its own tools, techniques, open questions, and research agenda.
