Co-Creating Empowering Technology to Support Physical Activity Among Older Adults

Continuous physical activity across the life span is crucial for healthy ageing. Technology offers the potential to support older people wishing to become or remain physically active, however, existing solutions are often designed without their involvement. This leads to prescriptive technology interventions that do not account for the individual, the relationship between the ageing body and physical (in)activity and the impact of the life course, and does not consider relevant environmental factors. To address this gap, this project will develop technology to support physical activity among older adults through co-creation, directly working with older people to deliver physical computing systems that engage and empower users, emphasize agency of the individual, and can contribute to a more active and healthier ageing society.
