Project

Between Universal Claims and Local Autonomy: Federalism and non-territoriality as ways of overcoming the tension between universal claims and local preferences

The goal of the research project is to connect the social ontology of institutions of both John Searle and Tony Lawson with the contemporary insights from the social sciences, more specifically the insights from Marin Nowak, Paul Pierson, Douglas North & Oliver Williamson and Elinor Ostrom, regarding the origin and maintenance of institutions. How can we show that social ontology is useful for social scientists and how canwe incorporate social science insights into our social ontology?
