Researcher

Andrea Sarkozy

  • Research Expertise:De research activities of Prof. Sarkozy are focused on better understanding the pathophysiology of complex arrhythmias and optimization of arrhythmia treatment with catheter ablation techniques. She performs mainly clinical research in the field of atrial fibrillation and complex ventricular arrhythmia mechanisms. In spite of extensive basic, translational and clinical research efforts is the initiation and maintenance mechanism of human atrial fibrillation is still poorly understood. Prof. Sarkozy evaluates novel and existing techniques for better diagnosis of structural left and right atrial abnormalities in patients with atrial fibrillation. Additionally, she analyzes the information gathered from intracardiac electrical signals with the help of new catheters and software’s during human atrial fibrillation. She evaluates patients’ and catheter ablation procedural characteristics to allow better selection and more efficacious and safer performance of catheter ablation procedures.

  • Research techniques:Prof. Sarkozy has extensive clinical experience and expertise in the performance of all types of catheter ablation procedures in patients with cardiac arrhythmias. This expertise allows in the frame of pioneering clinical studies the safe testing and first introduction of novel catheters and electroanatomical mapping modules into the clinical arena. Based on her clinical expertise she also advises new catheter and software module developments in the area of complex arrhythmias. Her main research technique is performance of clinical studies.
  • Users of research expertise:Prof. Sarkozy supports with her clinical and research activities mainly the catheter treatment of patients with complex arrhythmias.
