Activity of endothelial nitric oxide synthase in a mouse model for atherosclerosis.

The endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) generates the antiatherogenic nitric oxide (NO) in response to shear forces and receptor stimuli. However, the major differences between apolipoprotein E deficient (apoE-/-) and wild type C57Bl/6 mice were rather observed in the basal instead of the stimulated NO production. Purpose of this research is to find explanations for this discrepancy between receptor mediated and basal NO synthesis.
