Pope Francis: a new insight in Incarnation which shakes up the Church

Pope Francis' new approach is based on the concept of Incarnation as developed in Dei Verbum. In

Jesus, God has taken the initiative to come and meet us, to start a dialogue of salvation, and to give

an example of mercy and service. Incarnation, through “encounter, dialogue and mercy” is the guiding

principle of Pope Francis’ pontificate. Pope Francis applies what Dei Verbum says about God to the

Church as a whole and draws radical conclusions from this insight. Incarnation leads to a synodal

Church, where the Gospel is announced from the heart of daily life. Based on this concept of

Incarnation, the Pope outlines a new Christian life-style and a new face for the Church, including

greater responsibility for the entire people of God, Church-structures that actually serve the faithful,

and a constant dialogue within the Church as well as with the outside world.
