Insights on the relation between SpatialInterventions in Collective Spaces and Social Resilience in Informal Settlements

Current urbanization in south american cities affects social and economic dynamics as well as the ecosystems’ health and functioning. Although studies have linked urbanization patterns and resilience, they have not incorporated the full extent of the complexity of human dynamics in interaction with urban processes and the built environment. Moreover, only few of them make an explicit reference to urban design. Studies of urban processes and emergent spatial patterns have contributed to develop our understanding of cities as complex self-organizing systems, yet a spatial morphological perspective that could inform spatial interventions is still lacking in research of urban resilience. Therefore, considering the pace of current urbanization, the aim of this research is to understand the correlation between spatial urbanization patterns and urban resilience. To address the problem this study proposes to identify the conceptual links between resilience theory and urban form and morphology, also a defined theoretical framework, spatial analysis and design will be applied in case studies in the Northern region of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
