Assessment of the Carbonation, CO2 Sequestration and Leaching Behavior of Potential ‘Green’ Concrete with Supplementary Cementitious Materials to Quantify its Actual Durability and Sustainability

Partial cement replacement by supplementary cementitious materials in concrete could reduce CO2 emissions. Durability should remain though. Because accelerated tests usually indicate higher susceptibility to carbonation, all related changes in microstructure and transport properties will be studied. Moreover, a setup for carbonation under mechanical loads will be developed. CO2 sequestration and leaching will be addressed as well for LCA purposes.
