Performance evaluation of different solar cells under potential-induced degradation (PID) (R-8536)

Presently, PV industries are facing one of the major reliability and durability issues known as potential induced degradation (PID). In the field, PV modules are connected in series in order to enhance voltage in large scale megawatt power plants. This high voltage stress causes adverse effects on solar PV performance with the devastating decline of the maximum power output. The PID issue needs to be addressed to understand the degradation mechanism involved under high voltage stress in the field. This study will give an insight towards the findings and related causes of PID on alternative solar cells/modules such as thin film CIGS and perovskite at lab scale. Furthermore, this PID performance study will be further evaluated by simulations. The cumulative study will support the lifetime prediction of different solar cells in large scale plants by understanding the kinetics behind the degradation.
