Preservation and repair of the joint: meeting the osteoarthritis challenge (Join-t-against-Osteoarthritis)

Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic joint disease for which no cure or specific treatment is available. The cartilage is the tissue that caps the bones and that allows soft movement in the joint. In osteoarthritis, the cartilage and the joint are damaged. This project will focus on strategies to maintain the health of the cartilage and the other tissues of the joint and to repair the joint when it is damaged. The research team brings together different types of expertise: specialist in cartilage biology, in stem cells, in inflammation, in biomechanical testing, in biomarker development and engineers that develop computer models, all to get better a better understanding of disease and to develop novel therapies.
