Association of functional variations in brain-expressed miRNA genes with bipolar disorders and schizophrenia

Despite its high heritability, the search for risk genes in the etiology of BP and SZ is of little success. This gives rise to the hypothesis that the complexity of BP and SZ is mainly due to genetic heterogenicity and the disruption of transcription of risk genes caused by mutations in regulatory factors such as miRNAs. The goal of the proposed project is to investigate the association of genetic variation in miRNAs in the etiology of BP and SZ.
