Forensic Design Strategy

This practiced-based PhD-research is located within the scientific frame of the ADAPT-r creative practice research. The research is based on and embedded in the practice of grundstein1 which developed an inter- and trans-disciplinary process of design and realized several award-winning projects.

With emerging technical achievements energy-autonomous architecture can be designed nowadays. This fact changes how houses and cities should be designed. As a consequence, the design process is becoming increasingly complex. To achieve the best possible design for all demands, it is necessary to develop a building within a growing team of specialists. Form follows energy, function, people, material etc. are just too simplified representations of these complex design processes.

Within this research project and through my practice as part of grundstein, I will investigate a process we name Forensic Design Strategy. This strategy includes an inter- and trans-disciplinary proceeding of dissecting and assembling parts of information, knowledge and steps of the process, which researches how the requests of specialists impact respectively shape a design and locates the role of the architects in that process.
With my research I intend to improve and clarify the process we name Forensic Design Strategy.
