Keeping up the pace: acquiring a ZebTEC installation for cost-efficient standardised rearing of small fish model organisms.

Small fish species such as zebrafish, stickleback and killifish are important model organisms in various biological research fields. All fish research, however, hinges on standardised and cost-efficient rearing of sufficient numbers of test-animals. While a growing number of ongoing research projects within the Biology Department directly relies on the use of fish-model species, current fish rearing facilities are outdated and insufficient. Therefore, we apply for a state of the art Tecniplast ZebTEC breeding system for standardised housing and breeding of laboratory fish. Five research groups, each managed by a ZAP member, across three research divisions within the department would directly benefit from this installation.
