Book Heritage Lab: detailed research on unique medieval manuscripts and prints.

The research infrastructure: the ‘3D Hirox video binocular’ and the ‘Handmade Paper Watermark Viewer (ATWISE 5242) aims to equip the KU Leuven Book Heritage Lab (BHL, Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, Maurits Sabbe Library and Illuminare, Centre for the research of Medieval Art), an innovative expertise laboratory of KU Leuven. With the equipment, diagnosis and research on the material characteristics of medieval and early modern paper and parchment artefacts will be implemented, with a special focus on production, scientific imaging, art-technical and book-archaeological studies, preservation and conservation. The BHL is embedded in the RICH project (Hercules 2012-2018, FCD-C4670-AKUL/11/03 - 2012-2018) and is located in the Faculty of TRW. The BHL is developing interdisciplinary research on items in the collections of KU Leuven University Librari es and in collections in Belgium and abroad
