Project

Advancement of measurement techniques and simulations for permeability of textile performs for composites (PERMEA)

The project targets the advancement of cost-effective, high volume, clean resin transfer moulding processes based for composites. The goal of the project is  on one hand the advancement of the normalisation of permeability measurements both in two and three dimensions and and on the other hand establishing links between the reinforcement geometrical variability and the variance and statistics of the permeability. Permeability of nano-engineered preforms will be studied, establishing the extent of influence of a nano-engineered reinforcement on its permeability The project will also advance models and software tools for permeability prediction (FlowTex component of WiseTex software suit) towards dual scale permeability. Provision of a normalised, precision validated measurement rig and procedures, and validated predictive simulation software tools for permeability of textile reinforcements will meet the needs of sustainable composite manufacturing. The project will contribute to the understanding of structure-per meability relations in nano-engineered preforms.
