Organisation profile:IED runs action-research projects in developing environments on how information literacy and autonomy can contribute to emancipation and development, but also how this can be supported by certain software concepts such as 'free and open source software'. This is done in a context of library services, citizen's information and digital libraries. Concrete projects at this moment are carried out in university libraries in Eastern Africa, the development of an international library automation system for developing countries with a Brazilian partner (DOCBIBLAS) and a project on 'Tigrina Cultural Heritage Digital Library' in Ethiopia.
