Project

Study of Wake Flows and their Unsteadiness Propagation

This joined PhD project in corporation with Cardiff University and TATA Steel Group is a continuation of the applicant studies on very low swirl annular jet combustion. The swirl numbers used in this project are much lower compared to standard swirling combustors currently used in industry. In this way, instabilities associated with higher swirl numbers can be avoided. However, studies found in literature on this very low swirl numbers are very scarce and therefore much research questions need to be addressed before implementation in industrial processes is feasable. The benefits with respect to combustion and pollution production are promising and this would allow TATA Steel Group to further optimize their open ovens to enable a more efficient production.
