Project

Advanced mixed mode circuit design in organic/oxide based technologies.

The purpose of this PhD is to explore the possibilities of organic/oxide transistors on foil in design. Experts in production technology have come to a point where these transistors can be produced with reasonable accuracy and predictability, but only the first small designs have been presented up to now, most of them coming from imec (the partner organization). The technology is extremely slow compared to standard CMOS. However for a lot of applications it has other, very attractive properties, e.g. the flexibility of the foil. The research will start by gaining experience in this very specific technology and to get to know all aspects. Afirst design will be the drivers for a flexible display. Gradually the complexity of the designs will be increased and the design methodology will be refined. Towards the end of the research project a design environment will be created that can be used by designers without a lot of technological knowledge to design circuits in a way comparable to the modernsilicon chip design.
