Development of new heteroaromatic-fused BODIPY dyes with biotechnological applications.

Fluorescence is a physical phenomenon widely applied in the biosciences and biotechnology fields. In this context, fluorescent compounds are very important, once they are commonly applied in fluorescence-based laboratory techniques. However, it should be noted that the fluorescent compounds with biotechnological applications often need to have very specific structural and optical properties, that enable researchers to apply them for selected laboratory techniques. In this research proposal we aim to develop new fluorescent organic compounds, rationally designed to be applied by other researchers working with biotechnology. The fluorescent compounds proposed in this project were never reported in the scientific literature, and will be prepared via very innovative approaches.
