De Food Policy prijs

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

In the article, the foundation of the Food Policy Award is explained and the five already presented awards are discussed. The award was founded as a result of the International Symposium that was organized in Brussels from 22 till 24 October 1990 on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the important Belgian Food Law of 4 August 1980. With the surplus of the income/expenses of the organization of the symposium, the organizers decided to found a triennial award for a better provision of nutrition information, the Food Policy Award. Regulations were drawn up: the award would be the pinnacle of a high-level project or study in Dutch, French or English that would contribute in an original way to a better provision of nutrition information to the consumer and/or youth. From 1990 to 2000, the award was handed out three times by the organizers of the symposium. To ensure the continuation of the award the organizers decided in 2003 to transfer the balance to the Royal Academies of Medicine of Belgium. From 2003 to 2010, the award was handed out twice by the Dutch Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium. Currently, the award runs over the period 2010-2015.
