Optimizing the use of support devices in electronic learning environments: the role of embeddedness.

Research reveals that support devices in electronisch learning environments often are not or suboptimally used by de learner. This suboptimal use relates to characteristics of the learning environment (embeddedness of support devices), of the learner (prior knowledge, goal orientation, self regulation) and of the support devices itself. In this research project these difference aspects will be studied in their relation, and hence an answer is sought on the following research questions: 1. What is hte effect of embedding versus not embedding support devices on the use of these support devices and performance? 2. Do prior knowledge, self regulation and goal orientation influence these effects? 3. Does the kind of support device influence the effects found in 1 and 2?
