Beckman Coulter Gallios flowcytometer.

Within the research of the beta cell and immune system, it is essential to use flow cytometry technology. This is located at different levels. First and foremost, there is a need for translation of findings from the RNA and even proteomics area, in which general directional findings pave the way. The flow cytometry equipment allows to confirm or refute findings at protein level. It also offers the great added value that one can locate the findings within a heterogeneous cell population at cellular level, an obstacle that can not be achieved by the more high-throughput techniques. On One-cell level, we can simultaneously identify a cell type and check its status for viability (apoptosis / necrosis), cell cycle (rest / proliferation), activation (cell-specific activation markers) and function (cell-specific protein expression such as Cytokines, chemokines). This not only provides added value in diabetes research but is essential in the other parts of all partners' research.
