Methods for geriatric assessment in elderly cancer patients: influence on treatment decisions and comparison of screening tools.

Because of the ageing of the population and the increasing incidence of cancer, an important expansion of geriatric cancer patients is foreseen during the coming years. These patients require a specific oncological treatment due to comorbidity, decrease of functional and cognitive capacities as well as depression. Objective appliances for therapeutical decisions are necessary in the treatment of this patients group. In the current study, we will study the effect of a geriatric check-up, comprehensive geriatric assessment, on oncological therapeutic decisions. Furthermore, 2 different screening methods will be compared with the full geriatric examination, trying to determine the need of elderly cancer patients.
