Project

Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain in order to evaluate the impact of adjuvant systemic treatment on cognitive functioning in cancer patients.

Impaired cognitive functioning has been recognized as a potential adverse effect of adjuvant systemic treatment in breast cancer patients. A subgroup of chemotherapy-treated breast cancer patients (10-40%) experiences mild cognitive deficits in domains mainly involving memory, attention, psychomotor speed and executive functioning. The pathophysiology of this impaired cognitive functioning is unclear. The purpose of this project is to evaluate cerebral white and gray matter integrity using advanced MR imaging before and after chemotherapy in combination with detailed cognitive assessment.
