Project

Master in irrigation engineering.

In major parts of Bolivia, crop production under rainfed agriculture is very low and far from stable due to unreliable climatic conditions. To increase the productivity and alleviate poverty, the Bolivian Ministry of Planning formulated a National Development Plan by investing in irrigation and roads (the productive infrastructure). However, the different institutions identify as a limitation to make the plan viable and to guarantee a sustainable use of water resources the lack of highly qualified irrigation engineers to design and manage irrigation projects. In order to meet this need, this Own Initiative will design, implement and run a Master programme in Irrigation engineering in close cooperation with the local stakeholders, and will guarantee its sustainability after the period of this Initiative. The Master research and related field data collection will be carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, the National Service of Irrigation, local municipalities, communities and social organizations.
