Tectonic landscapes of Minoan Crete: a geoarchaeological investigation.
This research project intends to examine the relationship between the tectonically active landscapes of Crete (Greece) and their Minoan inhabitants during the Late Bronze Age. First, the patterns of archaeological site destructions recorded during the Late Minoan IIIB (LM IIIB, ca. 1300-1200 BC) will be studied. Their value as paleoearthquake indicator will be examined. Scaling up the field of research, the spatial relationship between Minoan archaeological sites and tectonic geomorphology (e.g. fault scarps, gorges, cliffs) will be investigated.
