The impact of socio-cultural dynamics on human micro-evolution: a case study of the West-European Low Countries.

The main aim of this proposal is to get insights into the range of EPP frequencies before, during and after the demographic transition within Western Europe. Linking and applying methodology of three described disciplines will enable us to understand the spatio-temporal range of EPP frequencies better than would be possible by restricting us to each discipline individually. In addition, this analysis will have a direct impact on all three disciplines. In HBE, this research will make it possible to determine how evolutionary, ecological and social factors influence and shape adaptive EPP behaviour within human populations. In HD, identification and estimations of past EPP events will provide essential insights in the past changes in extramarital sexual behaviour (and conceptions) and the effectiveness of mechanisms of social control on fertility. Finally, in FG it will be possible to identify novel Y-chr markers for familial searching approaches and to estimate the impact of past EPP behaviour on these approaches.
