Project

A CDS (Cellular-Distribution-System) empowering the cell biologist with cell-spatial statistical analysis for describing protein distributions.

Crucial to understanding cell signaling is unraveling how the key-players, proteins and lipids, interact and the mechanisms that regulate their distribution in the plane of cellular membranes. The application described here provides a tool to investigate, visualize and analyze the distribution and spatial organization of proteins and their dynamic changes in cellular membranes. With this application, proof of principle with several examples of the sub-cellular protein distributions of simulated and real images will be established using a multitude of housekeeping proteins (e.g. transferrin receptor). Finally to demonstrate the full potential of the analysis, so far only hypothesized subpopulations of the -secretase complex will be investigated, with the data generated having potential implications for Alzheimers disease treatment.
