Project

Automatic quantification of intrinsic exercise intensity and exercise benefits in athletes.

The goal of every athlete is to perform as well as possible, in the most efficient way. The performance of every athlete during game-situations, is influenced both by his/her physical and mental condition.

Training programs have already been used long time in order to improve the physical condition. Such programs consists of different exercises. These can be described by its type, the duration, intensity and frequency. Many methods are available to quantify them.

Training the mental condition is not as common, since there is often a lack of knowledge. During training good motiviation is necessary for the athlete to persist following his/her program. During game situations it is important to be able to cope with stress and pressure. Staying focused is important as well.

The athlete should get more insight in how his mental condition is influencing his/her performances, if he/she wants to perform in an optimal way. This is possible only when apart from the physical condition, also the mental condition can be quantified.

Therefore, the goal of this is research is to (1) quantify the mental condition in a fully automatic way, (2) quantifying the performance of an athlete and (3) to investigate the connection between both.
