Schistosomiasis: the role of parasite genetic diversity in human infection and pathology.

Schistosomiasis is an important parasite infection, which is widespread in Africa. Characteristic is that Schistosoma infection and related clinical evidence may differ considerably within populations and age groups. We hypothesize that the various parasite strains may induce different infection and disease patterns in man.
