Laboratory for Complex Genetics

Division

Lifecycle:1 Oct 2015 →  Today
Organisation profile:

The Laboratory for Complex Genetics works on the genetics of complex (multifactorial) disease, with a special focus on neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s disease), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We employ a translational genetics approach in the context of specific clinical questions: (early) diagnosis, disease subtypes, disease progression, therapy options... Specifically we use data from large-scale genomic datasets (genotyping chips, RNA sequencing, exome/whole-genome sequencing), and from selected sets of patients to find the molecular mechanisms leading to complex disorders, and defining disease stages. In this respect, we have extensive expertise in biobanking, and processing and analysing genetics and expression data in a translational setting. We collaborate very closely with the clinicians and clinical units seeing these patients on a daily basis, and knowing best where the unmet clinical needs are.
