Sensory reweighting in walking

To maintain stable walking without falling, integration of the main sensory signals stemming from the visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems is crucial. However, through disease, aging, or external perturbations, these sensory signals can become noisy or degraded. In such cases, it is believed that a sensory reweighting process will take place, which entails down-weighting less reliable sensors, and upweighting the other sensors. In this scheme, an increased or decreased contribution of one sensory system will cause changes in the contributions of the other remaining sensory systems. My PhD project is aiming to investigate this reweighting process in walking among both healthy and LBP subjects.
