Current research of the Anatomy Department of the Free University of Brussels is mainly concentrated on: 1° Study of the mechanisms leading to glomerulosclerosis in experimental models of chronic renal failure; 2° Transplantation of liver progenitor cells; 3° Arthrokinematics and morphologic anatomic studies; 4° Clinical research on knee pathology.

The project started from 1996 to 1999 under the label OZR 252 'The Influence of Binaries on the number statistics and population synthesis of large groups of stars' and continued with a project OZR 188 from 1998 to 2001 'A library with evolutionary calculations of interacting binaries for a large variety of masses, mass ratio's and periods'. Diabetes mellitus is a pandemic metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. The pathogenic process is the result of insulin insufficiency.
