The unit organic farming focuses on the organic production system as a whole in which plant production and animal production are integrated. Closing cycles within the production system and soil fertility as fundamental condition are important research topics. We focus also on the introduction of precision farming techniques in organic farming and on sustainable development of orgaanic agrifood chains.

The unit precision farming investigates how smart farming systems can be used to monitor, fertilise, irrigate and protect the crop on a more effcient and precise way. Focus is put on the interpretation of remote sensing data and the use of these data in decision support systems. Besides of that, the unit evaluates the potential of further automatisation and robotisation in primary production and new developments in this domain are validated.

A transition is a structural change of a complex system to a new system over a long period of time.
