An effective medium model versus a network model for nanostructured solar cells

Hogeschool Gent

In this paper, two methods are compared to model the I-V curves of nanostrUctured solar cells. These cells consist of an interpenetrating network of an n-type transparent semiconductor oxide (e.g. TiO2) and a p-type semiconductor absorber (e.g. CdTe, CuInS2), deposited on TCO covered glass. The methods are also applicable when I dye and an electrolyte replace the p-semiconductor, and even to organic bulk heterojunction cells. A network model (NM) with resistors and diodes has been published b...

An empirical analysis of explanatory variables affecting Fusarium head blight infection and deoxynivalenol content in wheat

Hogeschool Gent

Models for predicting Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) and deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination in wheat provide farmers with a tool for preventing yield loss and mycotoxin contamination. Nevertheless, these predictive models suffer from a moderate accuracy and limited applicability, they are location-specific and only reliable in the area of development. Due to the complex nature of FHB, these models typically take only a subset of explanatory variables as inputs. They consider only weather conditio...

An evaluation of family-centered care services and organization of visiting policies in Belgian intensive care units: a multicenter survey

Hogeschool Gent

Admission in an intensive care unit (ICU) is a major cause of psychologic stress for the patient and the entire family, and liberalization of visitation has been shown to have a beneficial impact. However, despite the data available, practice has not changed much to incorporate these findings.

A New One-dimensional Clarifier Model - Verification Using Full-scale Experimental Data

Hogeschool Gent

A new one-dimensional clarifier model was developed, including components of existing models, and extended with a height-dependent cross-sectional area and two flowrate-dependent dispersion coefficients. This model is evaluated using data from a detailed one-month measuring campaign on a full-scale wastewater treatment plant. The data included hourly sludge concentration profiles, sludge bed heights at 10 minute intervals, sludge concentrations in inlet, effluent and recycle flows and regular...

Animism

Hogeschool Gent

<br/>The project approaches the concept of animism – coined by 19th century anthropologists in the context of the colonial encounter – from a contemporary perspective. It addresses the current increase in interest in animism, which stems from a widespread re-visioning of modernity, by a ...

An integrated genomics approach to define niche establishment by Rhodococcus fascians

Hogeschool Gent

Rhodococcus fascians is a Gram-positive phytopathogen that induces shooty hyperplasia on its hosts through the secretion of cytokinins. Global transcriptomics using microarrays combined with profiling of primary metabolites on infected Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) plants revealed that this actinomycete modulated pathways to convert its host into a niche. The transcript data demonstrated that R. fascians leaves a very characteristic mark on Arabidopsis with a pronounced cytokinin respons...
